Our very annoying neighbours now have a caravan parked on there driveway.
It looks like there parents have come to stay and are living in the caravan. The caravan is old and an eye sore. They are running power lines to the caravan from the house. They have been doing this for a week now.
Is this legal ?

no, you need planning permission eh,, its ok for the odd weekend stay eh but not permanantly due to the sanitation ,, water in and waste out……….. you should ring the council they will sort it
Yes it is.
Probably, call your local council.
I think it needs planning permission if someone is staying in it.
IT IS LEGAL TO LIVE IN YOUR CARAVAN ON YOUR DRIVE,BUT THERE MIGHT BE SOME HEALTH AND SAFETY REGULATIONS ABOUT THE POWER CABLES.
In the US, you just call the home owners association – they have rules against that sort of thing.
If you don’t live in the US, you might try posting in the UK version of Y!A… they are separate sites.
More than likely it is not legal because of new housing guidelines. I’d check with the local by-laws enforcement. It shouldn’t be though as they are meant only for short term tempoary accomadation.
It’s okay for someone to stay in the caravan as a temporary measure, but not permanently. Speak to your local council if you wish, it could be that they have particular regulations though, frankly, I doubt if they’d be interested over a week or two’s holiday. There might be concerns over the power supply, though.
How nice it is to get on with your neighbours . . .
I don’t think it is legal if they are going to stay long.
Your question is about someone living on a neighbour’s driveway, this could be seen as trespassing and you call in the authorities if they will not move.
BUT your example is about a person’s relatives using a caravan on their drive way. This is different.
If some one is using their caravan as place of abode, I would have hoped that they could unless they are obstructing others.
It frightens me how few rights we have as it is.
My understanding is you don’t like the caravan.
You could wait till their relatives leave and speak to your neighbour in a very calm and friendly way about the caravan. We invited our neighbours round for a meal and by doing this they were able to bring up a complaint about the fence which needed repairing. It stopped us falling out and made everything easy to resolve.
You may get a surprise that they want to get rid of the caravan but they can’t for one reason or another, or intend to it this summer. If you don’t like it, why should they?
Have a chat with them before doing anything rash which you may regret later.
If my neighbours had stormed at me, I may not have bothered about fixing the fence- for years!
It is legal to sleep in the caravan, but not to cook, or use a toilet or wash. Crazy I know. There could be an issue with the power cables. Check with the Planning Department at your local Council.
